Track-6: Visual-Lean® Office Implementation Suite

The excellence revolution had been around for more than decade before companies began to realize that the same principles and practices that were making the production floor faster, better, and more profitable are applicable to other settings. Non-production functions have become targets for conversion. From there it is an easy step to seeking operational excellence in offices everywhere—hospitals, banks, retail stores, airports, at-home services, schools and colleges, and government agencies.

At QMI, the method we use for improving these settings is the Visual-Lean® Office. In addition, while the knowledge system and principles that QMI uses to help companies achieve a visual office are identical to those we use on the shop floor, there are two aspects that considerably distinctive.

Second, the visual conversion of an office environment must also address constraints in the critical path—obstacles in the flow of people, information, and materials in and through the physical work environment. In short, process flow and process improvement can not be separate from the elimination of information deficits through visual solutions.
